The last time is usually the bear. On TH400 you can remove the inspection cover and try to get it to click in the last time. Sometimes guys will screw up and put the bolt retaining plate BEHIND the flexplate and this will screw up installation. Sometimes the torque converter spud doesnt get into the hole in the crank and you have this issue.

no there is the torque converter in between the engine and the transmission and the casing is open. there is a gap between the transmission and the engine.

To drain the converter, remove the 2” rubber plug from the bottom of the bell housing, and using a large standard screwdriver turn the engine over by prying against the converter shell (either way is ok). When you can see the small plug in the access hole, use your 7/16” socket to loosen the plug and allow the converter to drain.

Removing the inspection cover also exposes the flywheel so you can turn it to gain access to all of the torque converter bolts.
